Hi, Iām Emily
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) in private practice in Asheville, NC. I moved to Asheville in 2004 to pursue my undergraduate degree in psychology from UNCA. My passion for understanding the mind-body connection led me to become a certified Esalen massage practitioner, a practice I have been exploring for the past eight years. This experience has helped me to expand my presence and mindfulness practice, deepening my insight into the relationship between mind, body and spirit.
To further explore my curiosity about the mind-body connection, I attended graduate school for mental health counseling and I am continuing to study various modalities that incorporate mindfulness and somatic based aspects into my counseling work. I believe that focusing on present-moment experiences can foster greater self-understanding and awareness, allowing for growth and change.
As a counselor, I strive to create a safe and welcoming space for curiosity and exploration. My goal is to help you reflect on the areas of your life you wish to shift and discover ways to live a more embodied, purposeful, and fulfilled life. I look forward to supporting you on your journey towards greater self-awareness and personal growth.
My Approach
My therapeutic approach is integrative, combining the principles of Hakomi therapy, person-centered therapy, and attachment theory to create a compassionate, curious and open space for self-discovery.
In our work together, I hope to provide a supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment. I aim to maintain a sense of empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity in the therapeutic relationship. I believe that you are the expert of your own life, and my role is to help you deepen your self-awareness and personal growth.
Drawing on Hakomi therapy, I often incorporate mindfulness and body-centered techniques for those who are interested. By encouraging present-moment awareness, we can gently uncover the unconscious beliefs and patterns that influence your behavior and emotional well-being. This combination allows for a holistic exploration of both mind and body, promoting deeper self-awareness and possible transformation.
Attachment theory also informs my work by helping us understand how your early relationships and experiences influence your current patterns in relationships and interpersonal dynamics. By exploring these patterns, we can work to develop more secure and healthy ways of relating to yourself and others.
Whether you are experiencing challenges around relationship issues, life transitions, depression, anxiety or wanting to understand yourself more fully, I am here to support you. Together, we will work collaboratively to help you in developing more self-compassion and implementing the changes you are seeking to be more fulfilled and satisfied with your life.
If this sounds like something you are interested in exploring, please reach out to schedule a consultation. I look forward to working with you.
